End Your Day with a Sense of Achievement

If you’re like many entrepreneurs, some days you feel like you got nothing done and end up feeling anxious and overwhelmed. You spend a lot of time aimlessly doing menial tasks and taking action on things that didn’t actually need to be done. I get it. As an entrepreneur for over 12 years and having coached dozens of entrepreneurs to gain their precious time back without sacrificing business growth, I’ve seen these common themes in my sessions with driven entrepreneurs.

The most difficult part is, you might even feel like you got a lot done in a day. But because you’re so driven and want to achieve more, you fail to see the progress you’ve made. This is why I recommend reading “The Gap and the Gain” by Dan Sullivan.

This book emphasizes three simple principles that can help you feel more productive and accomplished, so you can end your day feeling satisfied and present with your family.

 1. Measure Yourself Backwards:

As driven entrepreneurs, we tend to measure ourselves against an ideal. We need goals and something to strive for, but if we believe we’ll ever reach that horizon, we’ll be perpetually chasing. Instead, measure your progress from where you started. Reflect on how far you’ve come on a macro level (yearly, quarterly) and on a daily basis.

 2. Daily Wins:

At the end of each day, write down three wins. This helps you see the gain. I recommend using a personal operating system on Basecamp to jot these down and check them off. At the end of the year, you can celebrate your achievements with your team and family.

 3. Plan for Tomorrow:

Identify three “minimum effective dose” actions you can take the next day. These are actions that provide the biggest benefit for the least amount of time and energy. Focus on these key actions to ensure you make impactful progress every day.

 4. Create Themes for Your Days:

Assign themes to each day of the week. For example, one day might be for tenacity, another for leadership, another for content creation, and so on. This helps you focus on specific areas without feeling overwhelmed by juggling too many things at once.
